Catherine Daly Criminal Defence Barrister

International Criminal Defence Barrister

Catherine is a criminal defence barrister based at MC Chambers.

MC Chambers is a KC led specialist criminal defence set headed by Michael Wolkind King’s Counsel and Kieran Vaughan King’s Counsel, based in London, operating nationwide and internationally.

Prior to becoming a tenant at MC Chambers CD worked alongside Michael Wolkind KC for several years. During this time Catherine was involved in countless serious cases, including one of the first post R v Jogee [2016] UKSC 8 joint enterprise murder appeals in front of the Lord Chief Justice, and a successful appeal against conviction in the Court of Appeal (R v GS [2016] EWCA Crim 1612). Her experience is reflected by her extensive knowledge of legal procedure and her ability to master complex cases. See some here.

Due to her excellent client care Catherine is often chosen to represent clients with vulnerabilities and continues to receive outstanding client feedback. See reviews here.

Catherine has a busy criminal defence only practise, regularly appearing in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal. She deals with a vast range of matters from minor driving offences to serious violence, sex offences and drugs.

Catherine also regularly appears in front of Parole Boards. She recently successfully secured parole for a prisoner serving a life sentence for manslaughter, despite the police opposing parole on the basis that Helen’s Law applied because the location of the body had never been disclosed.

Catherine recently appeared in front of Lady Justice Simler and Mr Justice Pepperall in R v Healy [2022] EWCA Crim 1901 (Healy, Courtney Judgement). Catherine received the following esteemed praise:

LADY JUSTICE SIMLER: Ms Daly, there are some Counsel who think that coming along to a hearing in the Court of Appeal (criminal Division) is to a lesser or greater degree a waste of time because the judges have made up their minds before coming into Court. I can tell you that it was your submissions this morning that persuaded us to suspend this sentence, so we are very grateful.
